This practice guide steps implementation teams through the process of planning to implement evidence-based teaching practices in their school.

Implementation of evidence-based teaching practices takes time – often beginning earlier and lasting longer than schools anticipate. Time spent on planning and other activities is an investment in success.

This practice guide supports implementation teams to develop an implementation plan for their school. It takes them through the whole process, broken down into 4 manageable parts:

  1. Get ready – establishing an implementation team and goal, and identifying the core elements of the evidence-based practice to be implemented
  2. Identify and prioritise – identifying enablers and barriers and selecting implementation strategies
  3. Determine implementation outcomes – selecting outcomes and using them to monitor progress
  4. Schedule, and adjust when needed – using implementation stages to identify and schedule activities while remaining flexible.

This practice guide is part of a set of 3 resources that support schools in drafting an implementation plan. We recommend you read this practice guide and our Worked Example of a School Implementation Plan before drafting your school’s implementation plan using our template.
