In a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions are additional supports provided to students to address targeted needs. A good diagnostic assessment can identify these needs by providing insight into the components of reading students are having difficulties with. This allows schools to choose interventions that match students’ needs and target their specific areas of difficulty.
This practice guide explains how to provide targeted interventions to support the needs of students struggling with foundational reading skills. It includes criteria for choosing reading interventions, as well as advice on how to adjust the approach based on progress monitoring. It’s the fourth part of a series of guidance created in partnership with the Dyslexia-SPELD Foundation (DSF).
